My Night-Time Skincare Routine 2018

My Night-Time Skincare Routine 2018

Happy Wednesday!

This week, I thought I’d share with you the skincare routine that I do at night. I’ve been using this routine for over 6 months now and I find that when I’m vigilant with it, my skin is great.

I have managed to minimise oiliness, avoid dry patches and keep my skins texture feeling hydrated which is something I have struggled with in the past.

The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2%

Acids are something that I think you should know something about before you start playing with them. I must admit, I’m not an expert but after reading up on them, I picked a couple that I felt would benefit my skin.

It’s a mild lactic acid that offers a very mild exfoliation so helps to resurface the cells on your face.

I use it before my facial oil as it is more effective this way. I’ve found it combats dryness as it keeps the skin fresh on the face. Because of the low concentration of Lactic Acid, I feel better about using it daily and it’s not as damaging to the skin when in the sun as the 10% one would be.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2%

I like to use this to clear up any breakouts I may have. I don’t tend to use it every day because I do occasionally have days where my skin is clear.

When I have the odd spot, I use it to spot-treat the problem and when I have a breakout, I use it almost all over my face as it is really effective at clearing everything up and minimising scarring and hyperpigmentation.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

I have already done a blog post about this product so for more info, click here.

I absolutely love it, the smell, the texture, the way it soaks in, everything. I take three drops every night into the palm of my hand and then press it into the skin gently. It’s so relaxing and my skin loves it.

At the age of 20, I feel like my skin needs hydration, but my mum also loves this product and it suits her more mature skin very well too. I think it’s a must in all skincare routines.

On days where my skin doesn’t feel too dehydrated, I use this product alone and on days where I need a little more, I use a sleeping mask as well (more on this later).

Kiehl’s Creaming Eye Treatment with Avocado

From the moment I first used this product, I loved it. I often wake up with tight undereyes and so was looking for something really nourishing without being too heavy. A heavier cream under my eyes often gives me little millia bumps and that’s just not nice for anyone.

This product, for me, does everything. It’s also really soothing to put under the eye before bed. You need the smallest amount and then have to work it between your ring fingers to ‘loosen it’ a bit. You’ll feel the texture change and that’s when it’s good to apply under the eyes.

I like to apply my eye cream before face cream as it absorbs better and is therefore more effective.

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask

This product is a nice thick consistency that rehydrates your skin overnight. I do think that in the winter, it would be wise for me to use this every night as my skin gets drier in the colder months, however, I can be slightly lazy with my skincare routine (oops!).

It’s a strange ‘bouncy’ texture but I actually really like it. Because it’s a sleeping mask, it doesn’t soak in straight away but I really like that as I feel it’s doing something as I sleep. Whenever I use this product, I always wake up with baby-soft skin in the morning.

Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips

This is an absolute lifesaver. You could have the driest lips in the world and applying this once will save them. It’s a really thick product so, whilst that isn’t for everyone, I absolutely love it. It’s unscented and natural which is also a bonus.

I always apply a thicker lipbalm overnight to give it a chance to work itself in without being worn off.

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

This is quite an intense treatment and can make your skin more sensitive to sun damage so I only ever do it every week to 10 days. It’s good for completely resurfacing your skin and exfoliating it without having to scrub it.

As it’s a bit stronger, it’s probably not entirely suitable for super sensitive skin but I really like it and my skin seems to get on fine with it.

I apply it all over my face with my fingers, avoiding the eye area (obvs) and then leave it on for about 8 and a half minutes. I rinse off with warm water and pat my face dry with a clean flannel.

It does have a strong chemically smell but I don’t mind it too much as it’s not on your face for long.
